“We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.” – Henry David Thoreau, Walden or Life in the Woods

There is a true yearning to respond to the singing river and wise rock.”

Do we like what we see in the mirror? And according to our light, according to our understanding, according to our courage, we will have to say yea or nay-and rise!”

This is a wonderful day, I have never seen this one before.”

During a walk my family and I took to a forest in the north of Portugal,  we spotted this gorgeous tree that had been struck by a powerful lightning strike and we stood there for a few minutes. First we were intrigued and sad for that image. Sometimes thunders only leave a scarf and trees survive and this amazing tree had its branches covered with baby green leaves. It seemed as if the branches were trying to reach the other trees.

After a while my son decided to look inside the tree. Then the most amazing discover took place. The tree was empty inside (first photo). How was that possible? We were not sure what to think. Was the little fellow dying or being born again? It was one of those rare moments where you get the chance to look at something from a different point of view. Well, we decided to think that the tree was finding its way again into the world and its companions. All great changes seem to be preceded by chaos. One thing is for sure, we would love to return there and pay a visit to this little one!

Cabo da Roca, Portugal

Cape Roca is a cape which forms the westernmost extent of mainland Portugal and continental Europe. The cape is in Sintra, near Azóia, in the southwest of the district of Lisbon. It is in the nearest point between Europe and the USA.

This magical and stunning atmosphere was described by our famous Portuguese poet, Luís Vaz de Camões (1524-1580),with these words:

‘Aqui…
Onde a terra termina e o mar começa…
Ponta mais ocidental do continente europeu’

‘Here…
Where the land ends and the sea begins…
Westernmost point of the European continent’

These pictures were taken inside a very famous monastery in the north of my country, Mosteiro de Cete.  It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime mornings. When life is sweet and you just want to say thank you.
