In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Treat.”
If you ever come to Portugal you must try this delicious treat: pastel de nata.
It’s a very simple custard tart but a symbol of our country’s pastry abroad. You can eat them hot sprinkled with cinnamon with an espresso.
I’ve read that it is sold in cities around the world like London or Shangai.
It is believed that pastel de nata was created by the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon. Around 1837 they were struggling with financial difficulties and they started to sell to the public these amazing treats!
