Curves and a fairytale bookshop

Livraria Lello – Porto: the most beautiful bookshop

As you walk through the doors of this bookshop you’ll notice that there is a wonderful stairway and the wooden walls are also very exquisite. The upper floor is filled with remarkable architectural items such as the Art Deco details on the walls, the bookcases and the columns coming from the ground floor; the wooden carvings and the stained glassed skylight also create an amazing magic mood. If you ever come to Porto, don’t miss this neo-Gothic gem from the beginning of the twentieth century.

JK Rowling lived in Porto for a few years working as an English teacher before writing Harry Potter and it is said that this bookshop, (yes!) has inspired her!

Numbers, birthdays and time

10” Somewhere close, yet far enough, there’s a place where time cannot reach. A time suspended in a moment, where the Earth starts turning, and where you know I’ll be waiting. I’ll be the wings that keep your heart in the clouds and you’ll be the anchor  that keeps my feet on the ground.”

Spare a moment

Dandelion, is my father going to be bald?

This week I decided to spare a moment going back to a wonderful childhood memory. There’s a Portuguese belief and a game that we play when we are children and it goes like this. You will need two players at least. First, one of the players asks: “Is your father going to be bald?” Then he blows with one breath the dandelion’s seeds and they both wait for the answer. Well, if all the seeds fly on, you know your father is going to be bald. Then they switch. These are moments of pure expectation and laughter. I still play it with my kids.

I know there are different beliefs about the power of dandelion’s seeds. Would you like to share any thoughts on this? I would love to read them! I’ve read that if you blow all the seeds with one big breath you will find your true love and the dandelion seeds will carry your thoughts to a loved one.

Jubilant cherry

Cherry season is here! Just look at this jubilant gorgeous cherry!                                     “Strawberries, cherries and an angel’s kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things(…)”  ♪                                                                                                               Nancy Sinatra – Summer Wine

Look closer! Where is it?

We know that spring has arrived and summer is near when my son finds our local ponds full of frogs. Look closer. Look again. Where is it? Yes, here it is! Here they are! We love to find their faces where we least expect!

“For this week’s photo challenge, let Mica’s insights inspire you: share a photo of a face. It could be your own face; the face of a loved one, whose lines and creases you know well; or even a face out in the wild, where you least expect to see one.”
